PSD Prahova contested the candidacy of Iulian Dumitrescu for the headship of the County Council. What the court decided

The file was entered at the Prahova Court on Saturday, April 27, and on Monday, April 29, the court rejected PSD’s appeal as unfounded.

“Rejects the application with the object of “challenge to the electoral law”, formulated by the petitioner Social Democratic Party-Prahova County Organization against Decision no. 42/26.04.2024 issued by the Electoral Office of County Circumscription no. 31 Prahova, as unfounded”, it is stated on the court portal.

The decision can be appealed within 24 hours.

Iulian Dumitrescu, criminally prosecuted for bribery, submitted his candidacy to head CJ Prahova

Iulian Dumitrescu is prosecuted by the DNA, under judicial control, for bribery and false statements. On February 1, he was accused by prosecutors of having received a bribe of over 16 million lei from a businessman who had a contract with CJ Prahova.

On April 24, PNL President Prahova submitted his signatures and candidacy file for the second mandate as head of the CJ. He accused PSD Prahova, “led by the Cozma Clan”, of “colossal pressures” and that they threw “rivers of lies into the public space” against him.

However, Dumitrescu did not have the validation of the National Political Bureau, and the party led by Nicolae Ciucă asked to check whether the statutory conditions were met. Thus, the leaders of the liberals appealed to the Court of Arbitration of the PNL for a point of view. The Court of Arbitration of the PNL is the forum with powers regarding compliance with the provisions of the Statute.

Iulian Dumitrescu has resigned from his political positions as first vice-president of the PNL and member of the National Political Bureau of the PNL and is prohibited from exercising his position as president of CJ Prahova.
