Specialists from research and development, from industry, to get involved in the university curriculum. Out of 14 courses, let him come and teach 4 with me in the classroom, like in the USA and Germany – proposes professor Dan Micu, from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca

Technical universities must update and make their curriculum more flexible, develop globally, with teaching and research activities involving both foreign students and the business environment, says Professor Dan Micu, from the Technical University of Cluj- Napoca. Double graduate in mathematics and industrial energy, Fulbright senior professor at the University of Florida and with over 50 research and teaching internships at universities abroad, Micu proposes the involvement of industry research and development specialists directly in teaching.

“What have we seen in other universities and what is not in ours? The involvement of those from research and development, from industry in the school curriculum, in the university curriculum. Not only to come to give ideas, but also to come out of 14 courses, four of them to hold, with me present and with interaction and debates, but to come to hold them. We have not seen this here, but it is practiced in the United States, where the regional part comes. This means creating a more sustainable bridge between us”, said Professor Dan Micu during the “Future of Technical Universities” conference organized on Friday, April 25, 2024, together with Professors Mircea Miclea and Attila Simo.

The debate takes place one month before the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN) holds the elections for the position of rector, a position for which Dan Micu would run, according to Edupedu.ro sources.

Little Dan is professor at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, where he teaches Numerical Methods, Mathematics Complements, Electromagentics (course in English) and Green Buildings at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. During 2017-2018 he was a Fulbright senior professor at the University of Florida, Electrical and Computer Engineering, USA, from 2019 to 2023 he was a professor at Beijing Jiatong University in China. He has a double degree in Mathematics (at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca) and in Industrial Energy (Technical University of Cluj-Napoca), with a doctorate in Electrical Engineering with research internships at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He was involved in 18 international research projects, including director of 8 Horizon projects, was project manager in 7 national research grants and member in 20 projects with the economic environment. Since 2023 he is the co-founder of Energy Advisor Start-up, since 2020 he is the president of the Research Commission of the Senate of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, and since 2010 he is the director of the Energy Transition Research Center.
