Who are the conservatives and sovereignists gathered by AUR in Bucharest and what messages did they propagate

For two days, the “Make Europe Great Again” event took place at the Parliament, a name that refers to the slogan with which Donald Trump won the presidential elections in 2016 – Make America Great Again. The conference was organized by the “Mihai Eminescu” Conservative Political Studies Institute, led by AUR senator Claudiu Târziu, a member of the formation’s leadership forum.

The event brought together sovereignists and conservatives from all over the world, and their speeches focused on the preservation of the national identity of the states, the opposition to migrants, the protection of the traditional family, as well as the EU’s failure to protect these values.

Return to “a culture of life”

The speakers consider it necessary to reform the European Union, in which context, George Simion, the leader of the AUR, asked them to commit that they will not support Ursula von der Leyen’s candidacy for the head of the European Commission for a new mandate. For his part, Claudiu Târziu spoke about returning to “a culture of life“.

“Europe must return to a culture of life, abandon the culture of death, which is increasingly important, especially through the ideological emanations of the European Commission, which aims, for example, to transform the killing of unborn children into a fundamental European right, which provides constraints and obligations for doctors and in general for all those who defend life. A culture of death that wants to trivialize assisted suicide. (..) This ancient European civilization is in danger due to the phenomenon of migration. European policies have encouraged massive migrations”, he said.

Alveda King, the granddaughter of Martin Luther King, is promoting similar opinions on the subject of abortions, and she is present at the event. King is a supporter of Donald Trump, who promotes the prohibition of abortions, although before this approach she had two miscarriages.

EU reform and the danger of migration

The reform of the European Union was also addressed by some of the AUR candidates for the European Parliament. For example, Aurel Axinia emphasized the idea of ​​the marginalization of small states and the intrusion of the EU into national competences, considering it necessary to reform the EU treaties to protect national values.

“It is a war, an important fight to preserve our identity. (..) We are mother and father, not parent 1 and parent 2”, declared, for her part, Georgiana Teodorescu, candidate for the European Parliament.

Filip Dewinter, one of the leaders of the right-wing Vlaams Belang party in Belgium, spoke about the danger of migration. “In Brussels the churches are empty, the mosques are full of Muslims, (..) they came to conquer. This is the threat to us Europeans. (..) The Koran is a license to kill, (..) an ideological policy for the eradication of Europe“, he said.

Trump supporters and promoters of conspiracy theories

The event was also attended by one of the advisers of the former US president, Bruce LeVell (main adviser to Donald Trump, former Small Business lawyer at the White House), who, in an interview for Adevărul, pleaded for peace negotiations in the war from Ukraine and for an equal contribution of member states to NATO. And the British conservative Geoffrey van Orden promoted the consolidation of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Among the participants were followers of conspiracy theories, such as Jack Posobiec or Robert Malone. According to public information, Jack Posobiec is described as a far-right political activist, former intelligence officer, promoter of conspiracy theories and supporter of Donald Trump.

“We win. (..) Outside of Bucharest, in Brussels, in Washington, they oppose the freedom of tradition and history. In the past, communism came from Moscow, now it comes from Bruxeless. To combat globalism, we must form an international alliance“, he said.

Robert Malone is an American doctor, also a supporter of Donald Trump, who says he was involved in the creation of vaccines based on mRNA, the technology used for sera against Covid. However, according to the New York Times, it cast doubt on the severity of COVID.

“We are not right-wing extremists, but center-right politicians. The press demonizes us, they call us extremists, but they are the radicals, they are the left-wing extremists. We should not allow them to corrupt our language and twist our words“, he said at the event.

Malone also promoted the idea that states would maintain a psychological war for the control of information, through intelligence structures.

A speech was also given by Michael Kleiner, president of the Supreme Court of the Likud party of Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu, a politician with revisionist views.

“Liberalism has removed religion from our lives. The year 2024 will be a turning point in history. Let us hope that a united Europe will emerge“, said Michael Kleiner.

Polish MEP: EU looks like a new Soviet Union

Last but not least, the meeting was attended by politicians with sovereignist visions from Poland and France.

“If we want to restore the greatness of Europe, it means that it was great once and is no longer. It was great after the Second World War, when the Western democracies were models for the Eastern Europeans. After the fall of the communist bloc we were able to join the European Community, but the EU began to change and this change was not in the direction of economic development, the development of our countries, but of a community. (..) Building such a community resembles a new Soviet Union and that is not what we expect from a democracy“, said Polish MEP Kosma Zlotowski, for Adevărul.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, he stated that it is dangerous for the EU: “Amiss that Russia does not accept European rules after World War II and wants to change borders by force. It is not acceptable to the EU“.
