VIDEO. Several public figures were moved to tears in front of a clip urging them to vote. Journalists, showbiz people, influencers, all had emotional reactions when they saw the campaign.

Teodora Tompea, Paula Herlo, Mirela Retegan and her daughter Maya, Vlad Petreanu, Alecsandru Dunaev, Şerban Copot are among those who were invited by the Office of the European Parliament in Romania to preview the video that encourages young people to vote. Everyone was impressed.

The spot will be released next week. For now, the film that captures their reactions has been released.

Before other details, some sequences showing their reaction when they saw the campaign film:

What did they say when they saw the campaign?

Teodora Tompea: “My grandmother had to raise her seven siblings alone, because her parents were imprisoned because of the communists.”

Chef Radu Dumitrescu: “I remember starting to hate war when I saw a scar on my grandfather’s stomach.”

Maya Sorian: “It awakened in me a sense of duty.”

Paula Herlo: “I was revolted, because I saw that exhortation of my grandparents: take care of democracy. The film is devastating and I hope it awakens in as many as possible the feeling that we must take care of our democracy. I think parents have a duty to tell their children that going to vote is a duty to your country.”

Mirela Retegan: “I know what it’s like to not be allowed to speak your mind.”

Vlad Petreanu: “Democracies are reformable and adaptable. A dictatorship, an autocratic regime, is not adaptable. I don’t think we can imagine what this continent looked like with two world wars 20 years apart.”

Şerban Copoţ: “Europe without democracy was what it was for so many hundreds and thousands of years. A continent plunged into wars. By voting, you show this respect for the sacrifices made by the generations before you.”

Alecsandru Dunaev: “We are here thanks to a very big effort of several generations.”

The campaign is carried out by the Europeam Parliament and will be launched next week

“On Monday, April 29, the European Parliament will launch in all member states the video that is the central element of the campaign to promote participation in the vote. It includes the testimonies of people who directly felt the transformative power of democracy.

Their stories – about how they lived in times of oppression or how fragile democracy actually is – remind us of an essential thing: voting is not just a right, it is our historical responsibility”, the organizers say.
