17 birds from species protected by law were discovered in a house in Ilfov county. The birds were released in nature by the police, and the person who kept them in the cage was charged with a criminal case.

The police acted following a complaint.

“Following the checks carried out as a result of a notification, on April 24, the police officers of the Ilfov Animal Protection Bureau found that the owner of a building, in the Domnești locality, had at his home address, in an aviary, 17 birds, from several species prohibited for possession, namely 5 scatii, 7 stilts, 1 florint, 1 finch and 3 budgerigars”, IPJ Ilfov announced.

Those birds are protected by law “by GEO 57/2007 regarding the regime of natural protected areas, conservation of natural habitats of wild flora and fauna”.

The police officers of the Ilfov Animal Protection Office have opened a criminal investigation file, in which they are investigating, in terms of committing the crime of possessing, transporting, trading or exchanging for any purpose specimens taken from nature in any of the stages of their biological cycle.
