The Ilfov County Police Inspectorate announced on Thursday that, following the checks made as a result of a notification, the officers of the Bureau for Animal Protection found that the owner of a building in the town of Domneşti kept 17 birds in an aviary at his home address, from several species prohibited for possession, respectively 5 scatias, 7 stilts, 1 florint, 1 finch and 3 budgerigars.

These birds are protected by law, through GEO 57/2007 regarding the regime of natural protected areas, conservation of natural habitats of wild flora and fauna.

“In the case, the police officers of the Ilfov Animal Protection Bureau have opened a criminal investigation file, in which they are conducting investigations, in terms of committing the crime of possessing, transporting, trading or exchanging for any purpose specimens taken from nature in any of the stages of their biological cycle” , stated IPJ Ilfov.

A team from the Biodiversity Directorate of the General Commissariat of the National Environmental Guard was also present at the control.

“Together with representatives of the police and a biologist from the Romanian Ornithological Society, a number of 17 specimens of birds, from the species mugurar, florint’s bottlenose, finch and scatius, were identified, which were illegally owned by the person in question. All these bird species are protected species of national interest that require strict protection. Considering these aspects, the specimens were released into the natural environment and a criminal complaint was filed in accordance with the provisions of the law”, the representatives of the Environmental Guard showed in their turn.
