Spring is on display, with birds chirping, 5 kilometers from Târgu Jiu.

Diana Speretoiu, Observer reporter: Almost two weeks earlier than in other springs, the wild daffodils bloomed. An enchanting view, a white carpet and a smell you can’t get enough of.

Plants have been protected by law for 17 years

There are thousands of fragrant flowers on dozens of hectares. Plants have been protected by law for 17 years. For many, the clearing is the ideal setting for successful photos. Claudiu is a photographer and every year he hunts the moment when the wild flowers open. Now he plans to share the joy with other nature lovers.

Claudiu Dumitrescu, photographer: We will exhibit each photo here as part of an art exhibition. Nature does not wait and we come every year to capture these beautiful moments.

Those who tear the flowers face stiff fines

Claudiu Fiu, environmental activist: Even if they no longer have the 90-100 flowers per square meter, they have decreased to an average of 50-60 flowers per square meter, however, they delight us especially with their scent. It is a very sensitive place, as they are a very delicate plant, to admire them, photograph them, smell them and enjoy their beauty.

But don’t break them! Those who do not resist the temptation to take home a bouquet of flowers risk stinging fines.

Consuela Avram, Environmental Protection Agency: Grazing is prohibited in the nature reserve, and the fine, I would like to inform the citizens, is from 5,000 lei to 10,000 lei.

Reporter: Even if we break some flowers?

Consuela Avram, Environmental Protection Agency: Yes, exactly. The same fine is kept. We hope that, in the next five years, this area will expand by at least one hectare.

The largest clearing in Europe is the Dumbrava Vadului Nature Reserve

Every year, on May 1, the daffodils of Târgu-Jiu have their own celebration. Last year, those who went to enjoy the landscape left behind a disaster: tons of garbage and destroyed flowers. In the country there are dozens of daffodil fields protected by law. The largest clearing in Romania and in Europe is the Dumbrava Vadului Natural Reserve, in Braşov, which covers 400 hectares.
