Fines up to 3,000 lei for Romanians who live in blocks of flats and have balconies. What are they not allowed to do? Here’s what to avoid doing starting May 1.

Fines for Romanians who stay at the block

Romanians who fire up barbecues in unauthorized areas risk fines from the authorities.

Under no circumstances can the barbecue be made in the balcony of the apartment, as the law of the owners’ associations completely prohibits this. It is also not allowed to make a fire in front of the block, because it is not an organized place.

According to the law, Romanians who barbecue in front of the building or on the balcony risk fines of up to 3,000 lei. Fires can only be lit in specially arranged areas, according to the authorities.

According to Law no. 54/2012, picnics and barbecues can only be organized in compliance with clear rules.

The law establishes two areas where this can be done: in areas designated for picnic activities, where picnic activities are allowed, but not lighting fires; in areas specially arranged for picnic activities, which are equipped with utilities and facilities for carrying out picnic activities and where lighting fires is allowed.

Barbecues can be organized in the capital (and outside it) in the following spaces:

  • Comana (shore of Lake Comana and surrounding forests);
  • Mihăilești Lake (Mihăilești reservoir in Giurgiu county);
  • the Cernica forest and lake;
  • Branesti Forest;
  • Mogosoaia Park.

What other fines can Romanians face if they don’t follow the rules?

The following acts constitute contraventions and are punished as follows:

Lighting a fire in unfurnished spaces / lighting a fire in furnished spaces, without its supervision – between 2,000 and 5,000 lei fine; Carrying out picnic activities outside the specially arranged areas and/or the areas indicated for them – between 1,000 and 3,000 lei fine;

A fine is given, from 100 to 500 lei for the destruction, modification, degradation of information panels, markings, indicators, constructions, fences in specially designed spaces;

From 100 to 200 lei for not respecting picnic area timetables, parking in undeveloped areas, satisfying physiological needs in undeveloped areas, using personal hygiene products at a distance of less than 30 meters from watercourses, washing dishes in the waters of neighborhood.
