Google is preparing to launch Duet AI, a virtual assistant designed to collaborate in real time with users, integrated into the company’s services, such as Gmail, Google Docs, Drive, Sheets and Slides. Unveiled at Google I/O 2023, Duet AI is now in the testing phase under the auspices of the Workspace Labs program, being accessible only to a group of users.

The new feature is meant to offer users a variety of features within Google apps, and will be generally available under the Google One AI Premium plan for Google Accounts after the trial period ends.

Duet AI aims to transform interaction with online applications by providing support for a number of specific tasks. In Gmail, for example, it can simplify and summarize conversations, suggest and improve responses, or search for specific information in emails, writes 9to5Google.

Duet AI’s capabilities also extend into Google Drive, where it can track files, summarize project folders, and answer questions about content in Drive and Gmail. In Google Docs, the assistant can generate new content, collaborate on existing documents, create tables or images, demonstrating advanced contextual understanding.

In addition, in Google Sheets, Duet AI is able to organize data, create detailed plans and perform complex calculations. In Google Slides, it can help create custom slides by adding text, images, and animations, and can even summarize entire presentations.
