Depending on the field of activity, employees may be called to work on certain days off. According to the Labor Code, employees who cannot benefit from a day off on public holidays must receive compensation in days off, granted in the next 30 days by the employer.

If no days off are granted, employees benefit from an increase to the basic salary that cannot be less than 100% of the basic salary corresponding to the work performed in the normal working schedule.

Employers who do not comply with the provisions of the law regarding legal days off risk fines between 5,000 and 10,000 lei.

Vacation leave is the most common employee benefit and starts at a minimum of 20 days. As a rule, most companies offer 21 days of leave, but many companies may grant additional days off. Employees are also entitled to 30 days of unpaid leave, granted only once.
