“The first three necessary documents have been completed: the technical expertise of the existing foundation on the site, the geotechnical study and the design theme. The next step is to complete the feasibility study. At the end of May, we hope that it will be ready to enter the approval procedure, and in July, we in the ministry hope that we will have the decision of the Government on the circuit so that we can move to the next stage. The most important is the wear and tear work, namely the preparations for the expropriation of privately owned buildings and which involved the signing of the second agreement with the World Bank”, said Alina Gorghiu, in the Senate, quoted by Agerpres.

She specified that the sums spent so far for the Justice District were 4.3 million lei, money obtained through a loan agreement – repayable external funds and that the estimated value of the project amounts to over one billion euros.

The construction of the Justice District is expected to be completed in 2030, if there are no delays, judicial sources told Libertatea.

The PSD senator, Robert Cazanciuc, former minister of justice, also said that the legal situation of the vacant land has been resolved and that “there is no turning back at the moment”.

“You don’t realize what legal madness was with this Justice District project, 11 hectares, two-thirds of which is owned by the state and the rest by the Capital City Hall and private owners. A Swiss, simply! It had to be taken piece by piece, every piece of land, every owner, that was in dispute with the City Hall, that was in dispute with the ministry. All these things have been clarified legally”, said Cazanciuc.

The land in the Piața Unirii area, abandoned after the Revolution

The Justice District will be built on the 11-hectare vacant lot, located opposite the Bucharest Court, next to the National Library, close to Unirii Square.

The land has long been desired by real estate investors, after the former project from the time of Nicolae Ceaușescu, called by the communists the “Center for Creation and Culture – The Song of Romania”, was abandoned after the Revolution of 1989 and is abandoned, full of misery, with many stray dogs, street people and drug addicts.

More than 20 courts will be part of the Justice District, the most important being the Bucharest Court of Appeal, the Bucharest Court, the District Courts, the Prosecutor’s Offices next to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, next to the Bucharest Court of Appeal, on next to the Bucharest Court and next to the District Courts, the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, the Ministry of Justice, the Superior Council of the Magistrates and the Judicial Inspection.
