“The connection between mind, body and soul in psychiatric illness” is the theme of a project initiated and implemented in Galati through the cooperation between the Archdiocese of Lower Danube, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and the “Elisabeta Doamna” Psychiatric Hospital, with the support of several medical staff from the Galaţi and Braile hospital units.

The action comes after the long cooperation between the servants of the Holy Shrines and the medical staff, for the benefit of the patients. In context, we remind you that on Monday, April 22, such a missionary action took place at the “Elisabeta Doamna” Clinical Psychiatry Hospital in Galati.

“His Most Reverend Father Archbishop Casian, together with priests from the social service of the church, once again brought relief, encouragement and prayers for the patients hospitalized in the Galati Psychiatric Hospital, but also gratitude and thanks to the medical staff for the effort and dedication with which they perform mission (…) The local hierarch and the other servants went to the sick beds of the patients hospitalized in the 2nd Psychiatry Department, to bless them, anoint them with holy oil and offer them prayer books and icons”, it is stated in a press release of the Lower Danube Archdiocese.

The project “The connection between mind, body and soul in psychiatric illness” is a continuation of the activity dedicated to the care of the sick. The action took place in the main hall of the Museum of History, Culture and Christian Spirituality from the Lower Danube and brought together university professors, hospital managers, medical personnel, people of culture, priests, students and students from Galați.

“The Most Reverend Father Casian delivered a word of blessing and made a presentation of the main aspects from the psychological and social sphere encountered today, which leave their mark on human social life.

Next, two of the university professors from Iaşi, special guests at the event, Nicu Gavriluţă and Cristina Gavriluţă, from the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Political Sciences of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iaşi, presented to the audience significant milestones arising from the contribution to each specialist participating in the project, in which the Church, Education and Health are involved. During the speeches held, the methods by which the permanent balance between the mind, body and soul must be preserved were highlighted and a series of aspects that can bring major imbalances in human life and can make him ill, sometimes irreparably, were pointed out.

Invited to speak, Ana Maria Ciubară and Dorel Firescu, from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Galati, made pertinent observations, underlining the complementarity between medicine and theology and the need to develop and deepen new collaborations in which they are involved, for physical health and soul, doctors and priests,” states the Lower Danube Archdiocese.
