A female gynecologist from the Giurgiu County Hospital was detained for taking a bribe. She allegedly asked for 900 lei to perform a caesarean section and was caught in the act when she received the money.
The gynecologist demanded 700 lei for herself and another 200 lei for other people from the Gynecology section of the Giurgiu County Hospital from the relative of a patient on whom she was going to have a caesarean section, say officers from the General Anti-corruption Directorate.
Informed about this, the police organized a raid and the doctor was caught while taking a bribe.
The management of the hospital states that until now, no complaint has been registered at the secretariat of the medical unit against the doctor picked up by the anti-corruption officers.
What the management of the medical unit says
The director of the Giurgiu County Emergency Hospital, Dragoș Chivu, told Agerpres that this is an unfortunate case that the management of the medical unit does not tolerate.
The hospital has not yet started an investigation, on the grounds that no complaint has been filed and is waiting for the judiciary to take the necessary measures in this case. If found guilty, the doctor risks prison. The criminal code provides for sanctions of two to seven years behind bars for taking bribes and banning the exercise of the profession.
