Approximately 60 students from the Hungarian-language high schools in Harghita participated, on Tuesday, in a competition of linguistic skills in Romanian, entitled “Non recuso laborem”, which took place at the “Marton Aron” National College in Miercurea- Tassel

The competition is a continuation of a similar competition, entitled “Beautiful book, honor to whom it was written”, which took place for 18 years in the county and which has not been organized since 2019, informs AGERPRES.

The initiator of both the old contest and the new one, in its first edition, Prof. Dr. Maria Sturzu, from the “Marton Aron” National College, declared, at the opening of the event, that this year only students from Harghita participated, from grades IX-XI, who learn according to the curriculum developed especially for Hungarian children, and from next year it is desired that students from Covasna, Mureş, Bacău or Braşov be invited to the competition, as was the case in the past.

She also pointed out the fact that, for the first time, an audio test was also included in the competition and it is desired that in future editions there will also be an oral interaction section, the topics being elaborated by the Romanian language teachers from the “Marton Aron National College” “.

She also pointed out that such a competition has the role of familiarizing students from Hungarian schools with the emotions of a Romanian language exam, so that they get good results, even if they are not native speakers of the Romanian language.

I told them that it is a test, an exercise that teaches you how to behave in an exam, how to control yourself, how to relax, how not to panic, how relaxation helps you understand the things you are asked to be done. You don’t have to act mechanically, you have to understand, go through the whole process of thinking and changing your mind, if necessary, to arrive at an answer that sounds ok in Romanian, even if you are not a Romanian speakerMaria Sturzu specified.

Regarding the name of the competition, “Non recuso laborem”, she told the students that this saying was the motto of Bishop Marton Aron, the spiritual patron of the college where the competition was organized and which bears his name.

The prefect of Harghita county, Petres Sandor, also participated in the opening ceremony, who expressed his joy that he is participating in the “rebirth” of this contest and urged the children to become friends with the Romanian language.

For his part, the deputy general school inspector Costin Hîrlav stated that this competition is an example of good practice.

Prize-winning students in the “Non recuso laborem” contest were rewarded with diplomas and books.
