Romania will have only one football referee at the Olympic Games in Paris

The Romanian Football Federation announces that Ovidiu Hațegan is the only Romanian referee who will officiate at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Hațegan is part of the 21 center referees selected to officiate matches at the Olympic Games.

“The FIFA Referees Committee has appointed 89 referees (21 center referees, 42 assistant referees, 20 video referee officials and six support referees) from 45 countries to referee matches at the Paris 2024 Olympic football tournaments. Romania will be represented at the Olympic Games by Ovidiu Hațegan, who is part of the 20 VAR referees appointed by FIFA”it is mentioned on the website of the Romanian federation.

The women’s tournament will start on July 25 and will end with the gold medal match at the Parc des Princes in Paris on August 10. The men’s competition will begin on July 24, while the final will take place on August 9, also at PSG’s stadium.

Referee training will be regularly and closely monitored before and during the Olympic Games by a team of FIFA technical trainers, including referees and video refereeing (VAR) instructors, as well as match analysts, fitness coaches, physiotherapists and sports science, all of them will give the officials the best possible training.

At both football tournaments at the Paris Olympics, referees will be supported by goal-line technology and the VAR system, including the semi-automatic offside system.
