Summer weather in Romania! Climatologists are amazed at what is happening

--

The weather is back to normal! After strong winds caused damage in various parts of the country, it looks like temperatures are starting to return to normal for this spring time.

The weather is returning to normal in Romania

Elena Mateescu, director of ANM, said how the weather will evolve after the strong wind warnings. According to her, the weather will be slightly colder today and tomorrow in the central and northern areas of the country. There, temperatures will not exceed 15 degrees Celsius, even at this time. Instead, in the south-west and south-east of the country, including the capital, only local temperatures of 22 degrees are expected.

“Tomorrow the same gap especially in these areas, while in the south-southeast already the temperatures will be slightly increasing and we are talking about 24°C again. We are approaching the threshold of a summer day, so that from Friday onwards temperatures will rise in most regions of the country, as we are talking about temperatures that will generally be between 10°C and 25°C. And this gap remains of interest until the end of this week, with small variations, it depends on the area we are in,” she told CNN’s Antena 3.

Elena Mateescu also said that the weather will be generally nice and warmer than usual throughout the country. According to her, especially from Friday, temperatures will exceed 25 degrees Celsius. There will also be local rainfall tomorrow, especially in the northwestern, northern and central regions of the country. But in general, the weather will be pleasant.

Climatologists do not understand the thermal anomalies that occur in Romania

Climatologists find the last year’s heat and 30-degree temperatures at the end of March hard to fathom. They discuss weather anomalies and mention that there are several tenths of a degree in the 2022 global temperature that remain unexplained.

Climatologist Roxana Bojariu also discussed the weather forecast for April, given that March ended with temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius. According to her, these are considered “anomalies”.

“It’s an unusual spring with these very strong contrasts, contrasts that come from extraordinarily high temperatures, a climatologist who looks at the numbers tells you, and we who are used to the numbers are amazed when we see temperatures of 31 degrees not only in one day and in several areas in southern Romania, but there were also areas in southeastern Europe, in Greece, in Bulgaria,” she told CNN’s Antena 3.

The change towards colder episodes is not always manifested by the appearance of strong negative anomalies, explained Roxana Bojariu.

According to her, temperatures are approaching normal or slightly below normal. But the contrast remains significant and higher temperature anomalies predominate. Thus, we are dealing with an extremely warm spring, which comes after an unusually warm winter again. But this situation is not specific only to Romania, she says.

“Scientists, climatologists in the international community are amazed by what is happening in the last 12 months, when – it is true that it is normal to see this increasing trend, but the amplitude with which the temperatures have increased globally puts us also in the face of a relative mystery.

And this is because, in addition to the usual trend of global warming, we are trying to explain and there remain a few unexplained tenths of a degree in the average global temperature of 2022 and it continues in 2024, with anomalies at the global level, but also at the level of Romania you see very large anomalies that go off the climate scale,” said the climatologist.
