Cluj – the first city in Romania where a hydrogen bus will be tested on the streets
Cluj-Napoca will be the first city in Romania to test a hydrogen bus in a few days. More precisely, on May 9, 2024, the first hydrogen-powered bus will arrive in Cluj, which will be presented to the local authorities, to convince the administration that this is a less polluting public transport alternative. The event is part of the third stage of a tour that takes place in several European countries, with the idea of gradually replacing diesel transport.
Cluj is the first city in Romania where such a bus will be tested, after which the campaign will continue in Galați, on May 13.
How hydrogen buses work
Hydrogen buses are vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells. According to specialists, their operation is based on an electric motor powered by hydrogen-based fuel cells. In this way, the emissions are zero.
The comfort of the passengers is not compromised, as the hydrogen is stored in some tanks that are placed on the roof of the bus. What is most important, however, is the fact that this hydrogen can be obtained through the electrolysis of water, and then we speak of sustainable green hydrogen. It could also be blue or gray when obtained from fossil fuel sources.
