The 1,800 employees at the Oltenia Energy Complex will not be given contracts for an indefinite period.

Paul Constantinescu, the trade union leader at Cariera Husnicioara, says that there are almost zero chances that the 1,800 employees will sign contracts other than fixed-term contracts.

The trade unionist says they could still be kept in the company for a longer period as staff are needed.

“Even the minister was not explicit, but we believe that we really need this staff. At Carrière Husnicioara, half of the staff are newly hired staff. The departure of employees from all sub-units would involve a massive shutdown of capacity and, without a doubt, the limitation of production. And with the limitation of production, obviously the budget can no longer be satisfied either. So if you ask me, to give the 1800 employees an indefinite contract… the chances are minimal to none, so to speak. We know very well that the CEO is going through a restructuring process. There is the possibility that some of the employees will benefit from a fixed-term contract with a higher number of months”, said Constantinescu on Radio Infinit.
