“Our countries, Romania and Bulgaria, are very similar. They are territories endowed with many natural beauties, mountains, plains, hills, the sea, the Danube river, lakes and rivers, waterfalls, forests and a wonderful fauna. Our nations are linked by a long friendship, the Bulgarian revolutionaries were helped by Romania in preparing the insurrection against the Ottoman power, and the Romanian troops fought in Griviţa and Plevna. History and geography also connect us and religion. For all these reasons, I think that in terms of tourism development, we have a lot to learn from each other”. (Liliana Ganceva)

In the Saturday, April 27, 2024 edition of the show Texts and pretextswe propose, friends, to discuss with the journalist and organizer of tourist and cultural events Liliana Ganceva from Bulgaria, executive director of the “Danubius” Euroregion Association, about a topic of great common interest: the tourism situation. Everyone with their opinion, how many lies, so many opinions. I am a supporter of the idea that Bulgarian tourism is more developed and professionally articulated, Mrs. Ganceva admires Romanian tourism and believes that Bulgarians could learn some things from their Romanian partners. Therefore, I assume my subjectivism, but I emphasize that it is a well-argued one.

Thus, Bulgaria is a country “with everything”, big (their sea coast is more beautiful, from Tyulenovo to Kavarna, Balchik and Varna and up to Nessebar, Sozopol and Primorsko, that mde, high, rough and rocky coast, with living water, full of flora and fauna, with tiny islands, unpolluted sea…), plains (including the second European desert, the one with bizarre monoliths at Pobiti Kamani), hills (see the wonders of hill towns in the Sofia , Veliko-Tîrnovo and Plovdiv) and mountains (I am thinking of the resorts of Borovets, Bansko, Pamporovo, Panichishte, not to mention the Shipka Pass and the jewel of religious architecture at Rila). I haven’t seen a restaurant in Constanţa or Vama Veche full of Bulgarian tourists, but make a reservation at Happy Bar and Grill in Ruse and you will hear what language is spoken by the majority… Therefore, I am very curious with what vision let Romania’s friend, Mrs. Liliana Ganceva, come…

Răzvan Dolea, in the column Memory between quotes, will talk about Niccolo Machiavelli and the meaning of May 1st.

Of course, contest edition refers to an important moment in universal history: on April 27, 1822, the one who would become the hero of the Civil War, being the general who led the Unionist troops to victory, was born in Point Pleasant, Monroe, in the United States, and was to be later also the president of the United States of America, last but not least a great writer, because his memoirs still stand today as an example not only through the inestimable wealth of information, but also as an example of a sober and elegant style. In the Civil War, General Ulysses Grant, for he is the one we are talking about, would defeat a great rival, a brilliant Southern general, who would surrender to him after the Battle of Appotamox in Virginia.

In the column entitled connections, Georgeta Drăghici tells us about the newest literary events in France.

In the column space respite sportsman Valentin Protopopescu analyzes the performance of Rafel Nadal in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid.

Within the rubric Happy hour we invite you to listen to a famous humorous moment from the “Gold Archive” of SRR, the skit Strada Afirmării performed by Horatiu Mălăele and Dem Rădulescu.
