According to INFP specialists, the earthquakes in Gorj would have been caused by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey last year.

During the last year, shortly after the earthquake of 7.8 degrees on the Richter scale occurred in Turkey, several earthquakes took place in Romania too, which had a rather large magnitude: 5.7; 5.2; 5.

“The Gorj area is known for earthquakes, but since 1945 we haven’t had earthquakes over 5 southwest of Târgu Jiu.

This seismic sequence is characterized by the presence of the three earthquakes above 5 and very many earthquakes above 4 that occurred after the 7.8 earthquake in Turkey.

The two main causes: internal causes due to the magma body that exists in the area. A very rigid structure, the existence of local faults.

The second cause is the influence of the 7.8 earthquake in Turkey.

The earthquake energy was channeled along the southward-trending East Anatolian Fault. A few days after the 7.8, on the transforming fault of the Dead Sea, an earthquake of 6 took place in Syria,” said seismologist Mihai Diaconescu, on CNN’s Antena 3.
