Asked about Benjamin Netanyahu’s intention to launch a ground offensive against Rafah, the southern Gaza Strip, which has become a haven for 1.5 million Palestinians, Blinken said the priority of the United States is to reach a truce.

“This is the best, most effective way to alleviate suffering and also to create an environment where hopefully we are moving towards something that is truly sustainable and that brings lasting peace to people who desperately need it that’s why,” said the head of American diplomacy.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that the Israeli army will enter Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip “with or without agreement” to eliminate the four Hamas battalions he says remain in the area.

His remarks come as Hamas studies the latest truce proposal from mediators in Cairo, which calls for a 40-day ceasefire and the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for hostages in Gaza, according to media reports. Israeli.
