Some of the young people in Romania can receive the amount of 330 lei per month, under certain conditions, thanks to a program run by the state.

The money can be received for a maximum period of two years, and those interested can submit applications starting from March 28.

The “First student in the family” program provides subsidies for high school students from the 11th, 12th and 13th grades, in the amount of 330 lei/month, for a minimum period of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months .

In this way, equal access to quality university studies is pursued, regardless of socio-economic background.

The Ministry of Investments and European Projects, through the Management Authority for the Education and Employment Program (PEO), and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, is launching, on Friday, calls for the “First student in the family” program.

Within the framework of competitive calls, projects will be financed that aim to create a framework that ensures equal access to quality university studies, for any young person, regardless of the socio-economic background they come from, without any form of discrimination, and which at the same time time to support the prevention and combating of university dropout.

Projects within the PEO calls can be submitted by: state and private higher education institutions, state pre-university education units, in partnership with state and private higher education institutions.

Funding applications can be submitted in the MySMIS2021/SMIS2021+ IT system, between March 28, 2024 and May 31, 2024.

European funds will finance subsidies for high school students in the 11th, 12th and 13th grades in the amount of 300 lei/month for a minimum period of 12 months and a maximum of 21 months.

For students, subsidies in the amount of 330 lei/month will be financed, for a minimum period of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months.

Pupil and student grants will not be paid during the summer holidays.

Subsidies will be awarded to pupils/students from the target group of projects submitted by educational institutions, projects that will be financed within the call.

Also, the method of granting subsidies will be established by each educational institution.

The total budget allocated to the project calls is 50,000,000 euros, distributed at the level of two categories of regions: for the less developed regions (North-East, South-East, South-Muntenia, South-West Oltenia, North-West, West and Centre), the total amount available is 44,970,414.50 euros, of which the EU contribution is 38,224,849.78 euros (corresponding to an EU contribution of 85%), and the national contribution is 6,745,564.72 euros (corresponding to a national contribution of 15%).

Also, for the developed region (Bucharest-Ilfov), the total amount available is 5,029,585.5 euros, of which the EU contribution is 2,011,834.20 euros (corresponding to an EU contribution of 40%), and the national contribution is of 3,017,751.30 euros (corresponding to a national contribution of 60%).

“The first student in the family” is part of the National Program for the Reduction of University Dropout (PNRAU), provided for in the Higher Education Law no. 199/2023, and is financed through a competitive call for projects from the Education and Employment Program 2021 – 2027 and from the state budget.
