Drivers who break the traffic rules and go in the lane dedicated exclusively to buses and trolleybuses will be filmed from the STB vehicles, which will have video cameras mounted on them.

In this sense, Nicușor Dan, the general mayor of the Capital, expressed his support for the initiative presented by the vice-mayor Stelian Bujduveanu in relation to the installation of video cameras on public transport.

STB will have video cameras mounted on the vehicles

Stelian Bujduveanu, vice mayor of the Capital, announced that an intelligent traffic surveillance system will be implemented, which will include the installation of monitoring cameras in intersections and on STB vehicles.

He pointed out that the Local Police has only 40 agents who work in shifts and are responsible for managing road traffic.

We have a pilot project, which we have started and which will be implemented, at STB level.

Think it’s easier to mount a camera on public transport, on the moving vehicle, and then send all this information to the Local Police, than to put a police crew there at the intersection“, the deputy mayor said.

He specified that the hybrid system will also be used on public transport from STB, and on the street side, intersections and absolutely the entire integrated camera system.

Nicușor Dan, in agreement with the proposal of the vice mayor

“I support this project. It probably takes a few more weeks until it is realized,” declared Nicușor Dan on Thursday.

Over the past year, more than 16 km of routes dedicated exclusively to STB buses have been added to the existing ones, expanding into 7 new areas. These areas include:

  • Bd. Dacia – 0.4 km between Viitorului street and Calea Moșilor, only in the direction of Calea Moșilor,
  • Calea Dorobantilor – 0.7 km between Dorobanti square and Șoş.Ștefan cel Mare, only in the direction of Șoş.țefan cel Mare,
