Although he was twice sued for conflict of interest by ANI, the mayor of sector 5, Cristian Popescu Piedone, continued undeterred in his campaign to plant and maintain his relatives in key positions in the town hall he leads.

The town hall of Piedone’s nephews: one administrator, another local councilor and the last chief of police
Today, Newsweek Romania presents the case of Piedone’s three grandsons, sons of his wife’s sister.
Cristian Popescu Piedone was sued in 2016 by ANI for conflict of interest because he signed documents for companies owned by his two children.
ANI also sued him less than a month ago also for conflict of interest because he employed his son-in-law in one of the companies subordinate to the mayor’s office that he managed.

The nephew from the mayor’s office
Iulian Cârlogea is the public administrator of the Sector 5 City Hall. He is the first of Piedone’s three grandsons hired by him and the one who was given the most important position.

Newsweek Romania recently wrote that in the name of his nephew Iulian, uncle Piedone sheltered at least two of his collector cars that he transferred to his name once he was released from prison last summer.
Moreover, a number of other luxury cars used by Piedone were registered on the same company. When he’s not riding around the area on a motorbike.
Including the Duster car with which Piedone was taken to the place of detention after he was convicted in the Collective file was owned by the same company.
Iulian Cârlogea is the founding associate of one of the most important companies of the Piedone family: God Trust Enterprises SRL, where Piedone’s two children, Ana Maria and Vlad, later became associates. And where Piedone’s mother-in-law, an 87-year-old woman, is now the administrator.
This is the company for which ANI inspectors sued Piedone in the first conflict of interest case of 2016. In which he was convicted.
Three other vintage cars were registered to the same company.
The ex-wife of this nephew, Viorica, worked with him at the town hall of sector 4 when it was led by Piedone, and in 2016 she ran for the position of local councilor.

Cârlogea Liviu Viorel is executive director in the Local Police of Sector 5.
He owns part of the land on which the house is built in Principatele Unite street where Piedone claims to live, although in reality his residence is in an imposing villa on Sipetului street in Bragadiru commune, Ilfov county.

His ex-wife, Oprea Andreea Cătălina, is a director in the same town hall of Sector 5.
The two spouses followed Piedone to the mayor’s office of sector 4 where they also held leadership positions in the local police.
This nephew of Piedone was also deputy general commissioner of the Environmental Guard from 2016 to 2018.
Nephew, local councillor
Cristian Cârlogea is a local councilor in the Local Council of Sector 5. On the PPUSL side, the party led by Piedone and founded by Dan Voiculescu, the owner of the Antena Group press trust.
He is also the area manager of the company Total Verde SA owned by the City Hall of Sector 5.
His wife is an employee of the Orion Security SRL company in Piedone’s sphere of influence.
Among the three grandchildren, Cristian is also the poorest. He does not own land, flats, cars or bank accounts.
