A man from Butani, Bihor county, was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence and to pay moral damages in the amount of 5,000 euros, after assaulting a gendarme called to calm him down in a game room.

The incident took place in the evening of January 17, 2022, when the individual, being intoxicated, caused a scandal in that location, writes the local daily eBihoreanul.ro.

According to him, the employees of the gaming hall called 112, and a crew consisting of a gendarme and a police officer intervened on the spot. Despite the intervention of the authorities, the man became more and more aggressive, insulting and threatening the gendarme present.

The conflict ended with the assault of the gendarme, who was hit in the head area with a can of beer. The court decision, pronounced by the court in Alesd, sentenced the individual to 6 months of suspended prison and to the payment of moral damages to the gendarme who was assaulted.

Also, the aggressor was obliged to perform voluntary work for 60 days and follow a social reintegration program run by the Bihor Probation Service. Despite the initial request of the gendarme to receive moral damages in the amount of 10,000 euros, the court decided that the amount should be 5,000 euros, considering it an adequate and proportional sanction. The decision is not final and can be appealed.
