Police have launched an urgent investigation after a young man was attacked by a stranger on the street.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was left with injuries to his head and wrist after the assault on the evening of April 21 in Newbury, Berkshire. He also had his phone stolen by his attacker, who the police said was not known to him. A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to an incident of grievous bodily harm in Newbury.

Between 9pm and 10pm last Sunday (April 21), the victim, a man aged in his twenties, was in Fifth Road, Newbury. He was approached by an unknown person and was attacked, sustaining an injury to his head and wrist, which required hospital treatment. He has since been discharged. The victim’s mobile phone was stolen in the incident.”

Detectives are now urging witnesses to come forward and help with their investigation. This includes any dog ​​walkers or people driving who were in the area at the time. Thames Valley Police Investigating officer Detective Constable Kate Sidwell, based at Newbury police station, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please contact Thames Valley Police.

“I would be particularly keen to hear from any pedestrians or dog walkers who were in the area or anybody who was driving in the area to please get in touch if you have information that can assist my investigation.
