However, with the evolution of technology, they are used less and less and become forgotten objects at the bottom of a kitchen drawer. Consumers opt for either capsule espresso machines, manual portafilter espresso machines, or if the budget allows, automatic espresso machines.

Indeed, nowadays not having a coffee machine (electric) is somehow like not having a microwave oven, espresso machines have become objects of convenience, however we give you some reasons why you shouldn’t Ditch the old coffee maker, or even consider a new and stylish one.

1. Cost and quality: obviously it would be an inappropriate comparison, but most buyers who are looking for an espresso machine, look in the category under 1000 lei. Although there are many options in this category, most of the internal parts (even the most important ones like the boiler or the pump) are disposable and without proper maintenance they break quickly, the only option is to replace the entire equipment. A Moka Pot, on the other hand, requires no maintenance and interventions, as well as no painful investment.

2. Convenience can be frustrating: I mean, it really seems convenient to press a button and the coffee flows, but in the case of manual espresso machines, the portafilter and the group need to be cleaned just like the filter in the coffee maker, the tray is full of dirty water right when we are on the run, the water tank must always be filled, we have to buy capsules or solutions for decalcification, that is, even if we do not have to start all the procedures from the beginning for each espresso extraction, they can cause us some headaches, statistics show that a large part of buyers give up on electric espresso machines after less than a year of use, precisely for these reasons. With the Moka Pot, however, we know one thing: any coffee takes between 5 and 10 minutes (depending on the size of the container) with cleaning everything and until it heats up, we can do other things!

3. Space: the average length of a kitchen counter is 3 meters, in apartments even less. We subtract the space occupied by the stove/hob, the sink, the dish dryer, and only a little over a meter remains, on which we sometimes have to prepare a dinner for the whole family and somehow cram in the kitchen appliances, such as the microwave oven, air the fryer, or other kitchen robots. Even a smaller espresso machine takes up at least 30×30 cm. Food for thought. The Moka Pot, however, does not take up extra space, it will be kept either directly on the stove, or in the sink, or in its place in a drawer.

4. There is no difference in the quality of the coffee, only the texture: Let’s start straight with a common myth that many people give up on the Moka Pot. The creamy layer of foam that

it is produced only with an espresso machine (due to the extraction pressure) it offers a pleasant visual experience and promises an intense and rich tasting.

There’s just one problem with this: CREAM is just carbon dioxide, it’s nothing fancy, it has no additional antioxidant effects, and it doesn’t affect the taste of the coffee, just the texture. Too much cream can lead to a bitter or overloaded coffee in texture, affecting the final taste. Excess crema can also indicate uneven coffee extraction, which can mean under- or over-use of coffee, resulting in a lower quality drink. Espresso machines can produce too much crema due to overuse of coffee or build-up of residue on internal parts, thus affecting coffee extraction and beverage quality.

One of the warranty issues often encountered with espresso machines is that they overproduce crema, even after a few months of use.

In conclusion, crema is not a quality factor, it is just a characteristic of an espresso, but the drink is not more qualitative or special because of the crema, on the contrary, too much crema can spoil the experience.

5. The rich taste: well, the tastes are not discussed and we don’t want to convince you that one is better than the other. But if you prefer a less acidic coffee, and more sweet and bitter flavors, slow extraction in Moka can preserve the natural flavors and oils of the coffee beans, resulting in a drink with a complex and pleasant taste profile.

6. Tradition: Moka Pot coffee makers have a long history, they were invented by Alfonso Bialetti in the 1930s. For some coffee enthusiasts, using a Moka Pot is a way to connect with the classic coffee brewing tradition and can be a nostalgic ritual that evokes beautiful moments spent with family and friends.
