In the friendly match played at Civitas Metropolitano in Madrid, Colombia manages to prevail for the first time in history against Romania, score 3-2, at the end of an electrifying game.

Romania – Colombia 2-3

It can be said that the red equipment used for the first time by the Romanian national team did not bring luck to the tricolors. At the same time, the Colombians authoritatively dominated the playing field, in the foreground being the stars Luis Diaz (Liverpool) and the veteran James Rodriguez (Sao Paulo).

Paradoxically, Horațiu Moldovan’s debut at Civitas Metropolitano also took place as a national team player, the goalkeeper not being used by Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid until now.

The goalkeeper was beaten quite easily at the first dangerous attack of the South Americans, who stormed off on the counterattack. Cordoba scored with a header from Luis Diaz’s cross.

A few minutes later, Valentin Mihăilă, one of the most energetic players in Iordănescu’s national team, recovered a ball in the opposing third, then launched Stanciu inside the box.

The captain of the national team sent in the goal, where Denis Alibec was blocked at the last moment by an opposing defender.

10 minutes before the break, the South Americans scored again after a spectacular exchange of passes, the scorer this time being Jhon Arias.

The tricolors started the second half much better, Moruțan, Stanciu and Alibec giving the first signals at Vargas’ goal, while Cordoba, found in a favorable position, hit the outer side of the goal. The Moldovan spectacularly saved a shot from the corner sent by Luis Diaz.

Romania had a slightly more cohesive game with the double change made by Edi Iordănescu, Mihăilă and Alibec being replaced by Hagi and Drăguș, while Luis Diaz still remained the number 1 danger, the forays of the Liverpool star being downright spectacular. Introduced in place of Dias, Borre also created danger in the tricolor goal.

Another player who entered the field a short time ago, Asprilla, added his name to the scorers’ list 10 minutes before the end of regular time, the Moldovan being defeated again by a shot placed from inside the box.

The last minutes of the game belonged to the Romanians, Ianis Hagi managing to reduce the difference after a recovered ball in the last third, while Nedelcearu and Dennis Man were also close to the goal. The same Hagi sent just wide of the goal from a free kick.

In overtime, Florin Tănase, returned after a long break in the national team circuit, scored for 3-2 in an absolutely electrifying game.

The tricolors therefore stop the series of 12 consecutive games without defeat, Romania’s last failure dating back to November 17, 2022, 2-1 also in a friendly match with Slovenia.

Although it was only a preparation game, it was seen that the South Americans treated the game in Madrid seriously. The national team led by the Argentinean Nestor Lorenzo extended their unbeaten streak to 13, “Los Cafeteros” taking revenge in a way for the matches lost to Romania at the 1994 (USA) and 1998 (France) World Cups, when the tricolors won each time in the group phase, 3-1 and 1-0 respectively.
