While Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to maintain that Ukraine may have played a role in the attack at Crocus City Hall, some of the Russian leader’s entourage disagrees, Bloomberg reports, citing four people with close ties. with the Kremlin, according to the BBC.

According to these sources, the Russian authorities have no evidence of Kiev’s involvement in this incident, although Putin himself, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, and the head of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, have publicly stated this.

One of the agency’s interlocutors (“familiar with the situation, but who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue”) said that Putin was present at the talks during which the officials agreed that there was no connection with Kiev. Despite this, the Russian president is determined to use the tragedy to unite Russians around the war in Ukraine, a Bloomberg source claims.

According to the agency’s sources, Kremlin officials were shocked by the inability of the security services to prevent the armed attack.

Almost none of Russia’s political and business elites believe Ukrainian authorities could have facilitated the attack, Bloomberg adds.

Kiev denies any involvement in the terrorist attack near Moscow.

The spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zaharova, has already qualified the Bloomberg article as “the mother of all fakes”.
