Adrian Mazilu, trademark goal, and Romania beats Germany! “He will be an important name in Romanian football”

--
  • Adrian Mazilu is currently active at SBV Vitesse, in the Netherlands, to which the English club Brighton loaned him, after buying him last year from Farul Constanța.

Romania’s Under-19 national team achieved an extremely important victory with the similar representative of Germany, 3-2 at the Elite Tour, the last phase of the qualifications before the final tournament of the European Championship in this age category.

Two players from Farul Constanța, goalkeepers Vlad Răfăilă and Rafael Munteanu, the latter being the brother of striker Louis Munteanu, are also in the team called by the selector Adrian Dulcea for the Elite Tour from Croatia. Also, two other footballers in the squad belong to the seaside club, but are currently on loan to other teams, defender Mario Aioanei (at Unirea Slobozia) and Patrick Dulcea (at FC Argeș). Last but not least, three of the tricolors are trained in the Constanța academy: striker Adrian Mazilu (currently at SBV Vitesse, in the Netherlands, the team to which the English club Brighton loaned him, after buying him last year from Farul Constanța), left defender Andrei Borza (Rapid Bucharest) and midfielder Adrian Caragea (Sassuolo – Italy), son of former table tennis player Iulia Caragea, now coach at LPS “Nicolae Rotaru” Constanța, and former footballer Ștefan Caragea.

The last match, against Croatia

The winning goal against Germany was scored, in the 90th+4th minute, by Adrian Mazilu, with a trademark execution, left-footed shot from outside the box, at vinclu! The other two successes of Romania were signed by Patrick Dulcea (28) and Alexandru Stan (43), and Dzenan Pejcinovic (30, 62) scored for Germany U-19. Romania played with: Răfăilă – Aioanei, Tudose, Bădescu, Borza – Florea, Jalade (capt.), Dulcea – Mazilu, Stan (Kodor 74), Pop (Caragea). Reserves: Franculescu – Chinteș, Raicu, Moraru, Rădulescu, Stancovici, Șoptirean. In the previous match, Romania lost to Turkey, 0-2, and in the last match of the Elite Tour, the tricolors will meet Croatia, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 15.00.

The final tournament, in Northern Ireland

“The winners of the seven groups from the Elite Tour qualify for EURO U19. The final tournament will be hosted by Northern Ireland between July 15-28, 2024. The Romanian national team participated in two editions of the European U19 Championship, in 2011 and 2022. In 2025, the final EURO U19 tournament will be hosted by Romania”, it is stated on the official website of the Romanian Football Federation.

“It’s his execution”

Mazilu’s extraordinary execution of the goal against Germany did not surprise former Faro player Gabriel Torje, who was a colleague of the young striker in the Constanta team and knows him well. In addition, Mazilu also scored such goals in the Superliga.

“Trademark Mazilu, it’s his execution. And it’s not by chance, because even during the time when I was at Farul Constanța, and Mazilu had just joined the big team, he had done the training camp and started appearing from time to time on the field, he had this kind of executions. I also said when I got there, you can ask, that Mazilu will make the step to an important team very quickly. And only six months passed and he left. You can see the quality he has, you can see the physical and technical qualities, the very important discipline and, a very important aspect, he is a very intelligent boy. He is still young, he is 18 years old”, said Torje, at Digi Sport.

“100% will rely on him”

The 34-year-old midfielder believes that Brighton will undoubtedly rely on Mazilu for the foreseeable future.

“Don’t think the guys over there (Brighton) have taken him just to send him somewhere else to play. 100% will rely on him in the near future because he is a very valuable player with a lot of qualities. By buying him at the age of 17 for three million euros, maybe they saved 20 million that they had to pay in five years. I have no advice to give him, he doesn’t need to be taught much, he knows, he has an extraordinary education. He will be an important name in Romanian football. I said it since I arrived at Farul and saw him in the camp,” Gabriel Torje also said, according to the quoted source.
