Full of aromas and tastes! Seasonal delicacies – sea bream, trout and mussels are browned on the grill and on the stoves at a pace too slow for the gluttons attracted by the irresistible smells.

Devotion to fish during the Easter fast

“I recommend the trout, it’s the best fish, from us in Transaplina, Alba county. With salt and grilled, it’s natural, raised in nature. 20 lei for one hundred grams of trout.” says Niculae Ciobanu, merchant.

“A fried turbot, with polenta and tartar sauce, spring. Mmmm… I won’t be able to take it anymore. Very good!”, confesses a Romanian. “I bought mackerel, anchovies and fried potatoes. I like all fish, I like anchovies the most,” says a child.

The star of the Annunciation festival

The star of the festival was the fish borsch. And also in the celebrity chapter, among fishermen and chefs, we met Bărbosu, the viral chef on TikTok, who came especially from London for the fishing festival.

“We have a wonderful fish borscht here, forget it, what else does it need, just some leustean. This is the secret of fish borscht, to have Danube fish, as diversified as possible. It can also be made with only one assortment of fish, because my motto is If you have chickens, if you don’t, you don’t chicken! Good luck and even bigger, my boys and girls, I kiss you!” says Ovidiu ţigănuş, nicknamed Bărbosu.

“For the Annunciation, we brought a touch of the goodies and traditions of the Danube Delta – turbot on the stove, carp, fish meatballs, Danube scurvy and polenta and the indispensable mujdei”, says Filip Mastică, fisherman.

“I planned to get seafood, but the tail was too big, I got a turbot from here. How is it? Good. If you have enough money… This cost about 100 lei, what can I say “, says a Romanian. “If we have to eat fish tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, we eat sea bream now, today, even though it’s a bit expensive. 166 lei, 200 lei, too much! For these times,” says another.

“When the appetite is big, you don’t look at your wallet anymore. This portion of scurvy with polenta and mujdei cost 40 lei,” says Mădălina Iacob, Observer reporter. After the stinging fish with mujdei, the sweet desserts sold out immediately. Poale-n brau, donuts and cakes completed the street menu of Bucharest residents. The festival is open including Monday, Annunciation.
