“Academician Nicolae Manolescu, president of the Union of Writers and outstanding personality of Romanian culture, passed away in the afternoon of March 23, 2024, at the Elias Emergency University Hospital, following severe cardiac and pulmonary complications that occurred against the background of pre-existing chronic ailments .

God rest his soul!”.

“Nicolae Manolescu passed away! The critic, literary historian and essayist was 84 years old and was the president of the Romanian Writers’ Union.

Nicolae Manolescu was born on November 27, 1939, in Râmnicu Vâlcea. His mother, Sabina Apolzan (née Manolescu), was a French teacher, and his father, Petru Apolzan, a philosophy teacher.
