Zaporozhye is among the Ukrainian regions attacked overnight by Russian forces. In this area, critical and civilian infrastructure, as well as a fire station and a park, were hit, local authorities announced, quoted by Ukrainska Pravda.

No casualties were recorded.

The State Emergency Service added that, in addition to critical and civilian infrastructure, Russian forces hit a cooperative, one of the city’s parks and the electric transmission network.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Wednesday morning that in the night attack on several regions of the country, Russian forces launched more than 50 rockets and more than 20 Shahed, reports BBC Russia.

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy announced that Russia attacked critical infrastructure in six regions of the country, while civilian infrastructure was hit in the Kiev area.

For his part, the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Nikolai Oleshchuk, stated on Telegram that, “on the night of May 8, 2024, the Russian invaders launched a combined attack with various types of missiles and attack drones. In total, the enemy used 76 air attack weapons – 55 missiles and 21 drones”.

The energy infrastructure in the Ukrainian regions of Kirovograd and Poltava was damaged following the strikes last night, local authorities announced, quoted by Ukrainska Pravda. A child was injured in Kirovograd.

“As a result of an enemy missile attack on the Kirovograd region (…), a critical infrastructure facility was damaged. An eight-year-old child was injured. Previously, 13 private houses and almost three dozen garages were destroyed,” the head of the regional administration, Andrei Raikovich, said.

Ukrainian energy company DTEK announced on Wednesday morning that three of its thermal power plants were damaged in last night’s Russian missile attack, BBC Russia reports.

“Another extremely difficult night for the Ukrainian energy sector. The enemy fired at three of our thermal plants. The equipment was seriously damaged,” the company announced in a message on Telegram.

DTEK did not specify which of its thermal plants it was talking about, but online messages indicated that one of them is probably the Dobrotvorskaia thermal plant, the largest power plant in the Lviv region.
