In street interviews conducted by an influencer on Tik Tok, answering this question, 9 out of 10 Romanians said that this country is Turkey. The answer is wrong.

It’s true, Turkey is a bridge between Europe and Asia and spans both continents. But Turkey has no land border with Africa.

Spain, on the other hand, is the European state that has a land border with Africa.

So, the only country in Europe that has a land border with Africa is Spain. This is because Spain controls two small enclaves located on the north coast of Africa, known as Ceuta and Melilla. These enclaves are surrounded by Morocco, making Spain the only European country to have a direct land border with an African continent.

About Ceuta and Melilla:

Location: Ceuta and Melilla are located in northwest Africa, north of Morocco, on the Mediterranean coast. Ceuta is located on the northern shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, while Melilla is further east, about 150 kilometers away.

History: These territories have a long and complex history, marking a point of confluence between Europe and Africa. They have been under the control of various empires and kingdoms throughout history, including the Alphenicians, Romans, Byzantines and Moors. In modern centuries, they were under the influence of Spain and became part of Spanish territory in the 15th century.

Status: Ceuta and Melilla are considered autonomous communities of Spain, having a special status within it. However, they are not considered provinces of Spain and are not administratively integrated into any Spanish autonomous community.

Population and Culture: The inhabitants of these enclaves are a diverse mix of ethnicities, including Spaniards, Berbers, Arabs and other ethnic groups. These territories are characterized by their cultural diversity and varied historical influences.

Economy: The economy of Ceuta and Melilla is diversified, including industry, trade, tourism and fishing. They are of strategic and economic importance to Spain, serving as access points to the Mediterranean Sea and Africa.
