The “hostile line” of the Baltic countries has led to the severing of most of their ties with Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in comments published on Sunday, while also warning that Moscow will respond with asymmetric measures, Reuters reports.

“Due to the openly hostile line of Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, all interstate, interdepartmental, regional and sectoral ties with Russia have been broken,” said Maria Zaharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, for the state news agency RIA Novosti. referring to the capitals of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

Moscow, she said, will continue to resort to diplomatic measures to influence the Baltic countries, writes Agerpres.

Estonia last week accused Russia of violating international airspace regulations by interfering with GPS signals, and the Baltic states said they were “deeply concerned” by what they described as Russian espionage, NATO said last week.

Zakharova, without specifying which measures taken by the Baltic countries she is referring to, told RIA Novosti that Moscow will respond to the hostile actions of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia with asymmetric measures.

“We will also respond to the hostile actions of the Baltic states with asymmetric measures, primarily in the economic and transit sphere,” she insisted.

In February, the Ministry of the Interior in Moscow included the Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, the Lithuanian Minister of Culture and the members of the former Latvian Parliament on a list of people wanted for the destruction of monuments from the Soviet era.
