VIDEO F-16s will attack Russia immediately after Easter. Are they more powerful than Russia’s MIG-29?

On May 3, NATO released new images of ongoing training for Ukrainian pilots in Denmark. Video above, filmed at Royal Danish Air Force Skridstrup Air Base [RDAF]provides insight into the daily training routine of Ukrainian airmen, revealing some intricate details.

“Definitely, the F-16 is more agile than the MiG-29 RAC” (pictured below), commented a Ukrainian F-16 pilot interviewed. The pilot is codenamed “Moonfish”.

This comparison stems from “Moonfish’s” previous experience flying a similar Soviet fighter over Ukraine. The aviator also described the F-16 as “a super nice aircraft to operate.”

According to ‘Moonfish’, a significant part of the training takes place in the air, supplemented by the execution of mission tasks in the simulator. The video shared by NATO shows a two-seat F-16D fighter jet, a model believed to be from 1988, according to the sources.

“Much more agile”

Ukrainian experts speculate that it won’t be long before we see Ukrainian pilots embarking on their first flights in F-16s to attack Russia, a fact confirmed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces themselves.

These brave pilots are currently honing their functional and operational skills using top flight simulators. These simulators are meticulously designed to simulate the intricacies of the F-16 cockpit with stunning authenticity.

The same Ukrainian pilot offered some insight when asked about his view of the F-16, especially compared to his previous experiences with the Russian MiG. He expressed surprise at the F-16’s multifunction displays and the simplicity of the on-board computer system interface.

Moonfish was fascinated by the F-16’s joystick, stating that it piqued his curiosity unlike anything else on the MiG-29. He testified that the transition from the outdated data processing system on the MiG to the advanced on-board computer system of the F-16 was a substantial step.

This transition also highlighted some disparities between sight control and weapon interaction, but that didn’t diminish the Moonfish’s confidence that it would be able to master the F-16.

To date, four countries have provided their F-16s to the Ukrainian Air Force. These include Belgium, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. Different sources cite different figures, but the most commonly mentioned quantity of F-16s that Ukraine will receive is 61 units.

Denmark sends F16 after Easter

Earlier this year, in late April, Denmark’s ambassador to Ukraine, Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, reiterated that Denmark plans to transfer all of its remaining F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine after it acquires F-35s.

The Ukrainian Air Force is to receive the entire Danish fleet of F-16s, except for those sold to Argentina. Thus, a total of 44 F-16 AM and F-16BM fighters remain in Denmark’s possession, of which 24 were sold in April 2024 to Argentina.

As a result, Denmark is expected to transfer a total of 19 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in several batches.

Uraine will begin operating F-16s after Orthodox Easter on May 5, Kyiv said. as the country grapples with Russia’s devastating bombings and the long wait for Western-made fighter jets.

“We are waiting,” Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Ilya Yevlash said, adding that the planes would take to the skies over the war-torn country “after Easter,” according to statements reported Wednesday by Ukrainian media, as cited by Newsweek International.
