Hamas will soon announce that it has agreed to the Egyptian mediation proposal, Arab media and the Jerusalem Post said on Saturday.

The Palestinian newspaper Al-Qudsa reported that the announcement would be made within days, while the Al-Sharq newspaper, close to the Qatari government, reported that it would be made within hours.

“In light of recent contacts with the brother mediators in Egypt and Qatar, the Hamas delegation will head to Cairo [sâmbătă] to complete the talks,” Al-Sharq wrote, citing Hamas.

Hamas also reportedly said its main objective would be to achieve a national consensus and rebuild the Strip.

Also, according to information from the Arab media, on Saturday morning Egypt, Qatar, Israel and Hamas held discussions regarding the number of prisoners to be released under the agreement.

The Islamist movement Hamas remains “the only obstacle between the people of Gaza and a cessation of hostilities” with Israel, Antony Blinken said on Friday.

What the negotiated armistice offer entails

A delegation of the Islamist movement Hamas is in Egypt on Saturday to discuss the proposed ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip with Israel, which is threatening to launch a ground operation in Rafah despite international warnings, AFP also notes.

This while the Israeli army continues to strike the Gaza Strip, especially this overpopulated city in the south, according to France Presse sources.

After nearly seven months of devastating war, the truce offer on the table includes a 40-day pause in the Israeli offensive in Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of hostages kidnapped during Hamas’ unprecedented October 7 attack on southern Israel , the one who started the war.

The delegation of the Islamist movement, led by Khalil al-Hayya, number two in the political branch in Gaza, has arrived in Egypt, a Hamas official said.

A first round of negotiations would begin in the early afternoon, with “the presence of delegations from Qatar, Egypt and the United States,” the mediating countries, he added.

The head of the CIA is also in Egypt

Earlier, the website Axios had announced the presence in Cairo of the head of the CIA, William Burns.

Hamas, according to the Al-Quds article, received American guarantees for a permanent end to the war and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip in a third phase of the agreement.

Citing a “senior source”, Al-Qahera News, an Egyptian media outlet close to the intelligence services, reported that Egyptian mediators had “reached a consensual formula on most points of disagreement”.

The Hamas official stated that there are still some points that need to be resolved.

The mediating countries have been waiting for almost a week for Hamas to respond to this new truce offer.

Netanyahu says he will attack Rafah, with or without a ceasefire

Hamas said on Friday it was “determined” to achieve a “total halt” to Israel’s aggression, the “withdrawal” of Israeli forces from Gaza and a “serious agreement on the exchange” of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

For its part, Israel refuses a permanent ceasefire, insisting on a ground offensive on the city of Rafah, which it considers the last major bastion of the Islamist movement, where more than a million Palestinians, most of them refugees from the fighting, are huddled.

“We will do whatever it takes to defeat and defeat our enemy, including at Rafah,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated this week, reiterating his intention to launch this offensive “with or without a ceasefire.”

For Hossam Badran, a member of the Hamas political bureau, Netanyahu’s statements regarding an assault on Rafah “are clearly aimed at thwarting any possibility of a truce agreement.”
