The former president of the United States and Republican candidate for this year’s elections, Donald Trump, promised on Wednesday that he would carry out the “biggest expulsion” of migrants in the history of the country if he returns to the White House after the elections on November 5, because otherwise migrants “will destroy the country”, informs EFE, reports Agerpres.

“Allowing millions and millions of people, many of them very bad, to come through the southern border is not sustainable. They will destroy the country. We will carry out the largest expulsion in history. We have no choice,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

The former president once again accused his opponent, Democratic President Joe Biden, of applying an open borders policy in the last four years, which led to an “invasion” of migrants.

Trump made these statements a day after the publication of an interview with Time magazine in which the Republican detailed that, if he wins the election in November, he intends to deploy the military to track down and detain undocumented migrants.

In the same interview, Trump did not rule out the possibility of building new detention camps for migrants, although he did not indicate it as a priority, given that his plan is to quickly deport them.

Trump, who won election in 2016 after promising to build a wall on the border with Mexico, has once again put migration at the center of his campaign, which has become one of the issues of most concern to voters.

The Republican on Wednesday took advantage of a break in his criminal trial in New York to campaign in Wisconsin and Michigan, where he is virtually tied with Biden in the polls.

The New York tycoon already visited these two states in April and on that occasion also insisted on the issue of migration, accusing the current president of causing a “bloodbath on the border”.

The Biden administration reversed Trump’s policy of immediately rejecting migrants and launched humanitarian permit programs for citizens of several countries, while limiting asylum applications at the border.

More than two million people were arrested last year when they tried to illegally cross the southern border of the United States, EFE reminds.
