At least five people have died in multiple tornadoes that have ravaged the central United States. Dozens of houses and warehouses were simply blown away. The worst toll is in the state of Oklahoma, where there are three dead, including a four-month-old baby, and dozens injured. Since Friday, more than a hundred tornadoes have been recorded. Not just in Oklahoma, but in Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, and Missouri. On Sunday, more than 7 million Americans were under a tornado watch, and 47 million were under a thunderstorm watch for strong winds, heavy rain and hail. Unstable weather is expected to continue today and further extreme phenomena will occur.

After 78 tornadoes were recorded Friday, mainly in Iowa and Nebraska, another 35 were counted Saturday from north Texas to Missouri, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The governor of Oklahoma, Kevin Stitt, confirmed the death of four people in this state on Sunday. Photos and videos posted on social networks show dozens of completely destroyed houses and crushed vehicles.

More than 100 kilometers away, in Holdenville, at least two other people lost their lives, according to the disaster management department, with local media reporting that a four-month-old child was among the victims.

The governor of Oklahoma declared a state of emergency for 30 days.

On the other hand, heavy rains were recorded in several localities, and the weather alerts remained in force on Sunday, especially with the risk of floods, hail and tornadoes.

In the state of Iowa, a man died at a hospital from his injuries, his family told KETV NewsWatch 7, bringing the death toll to at least five.

More than 25,000 homes were without power in Texas and more than 19,000 in Oklahoma as of Sunday afternoon, according to the PowerOutage website.

Tornadoes, a meteorological phenomenon as impressive as it is difficult to predict, are relatively frequent in the United States, especially in the center and south of the country. It is, however, very rare for large-scale tornadoes to follow each other at this rate, according to meteorologists.
