Iran will give “a decisive response” to the raid attributed to Israel and which hit the Iranian consulate building in Damascus on Monday, killing at least five members of the Revolutionary Guard, Iran’s ideological army, the Iranian ambassador to Syria said, AFP reports, quoted by Agerpres.

“The building was attacked by F-35 fighter jets and six missiles (…) This action will lead to a decisive response from our side,” the ambassador told the journalists. A Revolutionary Guard Corps commander was killed in the raid, according to Iranian media.

An Iranian Revolutionary Guard general, Mohammad Reza Zahadi, was killed on Monday in what Iran says was an Israeli strike against its consulate in Damascus, according to Iranian public radio, quoted by DPA.

An unprecedented Israeli strike targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus on Monday, Syrian state media reported, the attack resulting in eight deaths according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDO), in an extremely tense regional context amid the war in the Strip Gaza. It is the fifth raid in eight days aimed at Syria, a country where Iran and its allies support the regime led by Bashar al-Assad, AFP notes.
