Three women who landed at Milan’s Malpensa airport on Thursday, April 13, ended up with hundreds of thousands of euros in damages after trying to enter Italy with a huge amount of money without declaring it.

The three women who came from Jakarta, Indonesia, were spotted by customs agents and the military from the Financial Guard with a total of 430,000 euros on them, the Italian news agency ANSA reports.

When asked if they had to declare sums of money, state securities or other goods, the passengers gave a negative answer.

However, the law enforcement officers checked their luggage and found money hidden in the suitcases in the form of 100 and 500 euro notes, as well as in the form of Swiss francs, a small part.

The Financial Guard was thus forced to seize half of the undeclared amount that exceeds 10,000 euros (the maximum limit allowed without being declared), for a total of about 200,000 euros, the quoted source also says.
