The beginning of the Timisoara election campaign was marked by a tumultuous incident, triggered at the symbolic moment of sticking the posters. The leaders of the United Dreapta Unită Alliance were welcomed in an unexpected way in Piata Unirii, by the local representatives of the AUR party.

Mayor Dominic Fritz, together with Cătălin Drula and Alin Nica, were preparing to give statements to the press when the atmosphere suddenly heated up. AUR representatives intervened with loud chants, disrupting the moment and turning the event into a fierce confrontation. Cries like “Long live Moldova, Transylvania and Wallachia!” they heightened tensions, and chaos formed around the display panel.

Clashes were inevitable, and Deputy Mayor Ruben Lațcau intervened to calm the spirits, even getting to lay hands on one of the protesters. The AUR deputy, Titi Stoica, accused vehemently, shouting “What are you doing, criminal! What have you done for this city!”.

On the other hand, Fritz’s supporters retaliated with loud chants in support of the mayor, while those from AUR retorted vehemently, supporting Ilie Sârbu’s candidacy for Mayor.

In the context of these incidents, Dominic Fritz pointed out on social media that AUR representatives broke the law by pasting two posters on the same board. Spirits gradually calmed down, and AUR representatives headed to the next display location, in Victoriei Square.

The incident marked a new tense episode in the election campaign in Timișoara, highlighting the differences and rivalries between the local political factions.
