George Simion is leading AUR to a colossal failure in the 2024 elections. AUR has lost several branches across the country and is failing to attract new people either. Simion’s party has been in freefall in the polls in recent weeks because it no longer convinces the electorate and lacks stability.
Internet recruitment ads
AUR launched an Internet recruitment campaign, but without any remarkable results. George Simion published ads to recruit candidates for the 2024 election.
“Starting tonight I will be using my LinkedIN account (old from 2013) to recruit specialists for AUR governance. There is such a need for professionals in the public space that we can only do it on LinkedIn/ the largest network of professionals. Send me your resume!” writes Simion.
Simion also put out a “job” announcement for senators. Simion wants to recruit civil servants from state institutions, and in order to run for the Senate, he requires “experience” in the field, as if Simion had experience in 2020 when he became a deputy.
“We are looking for civil servants and specialists in the basic fields coordinated by the Romanian state, from Nuclearelectrica to CFR, from Tarom to ASF, to lead these institutions towards the fulfillment of the AUR governance program and the elaboration of sectoral governance programs (energy, administration , environment, agriculture, transport, etc)”, writes in the announcement published by Simion.
On the eJobs platform and on his personal website, George Simion recruits people for government. He only managed to recruit all the trailblazers and politicians rejected by the big parties. AUR has not attracted any important personalities and has no candidates with notoriety or significant results in any field. Online ads don’t work either. Only 100 people responded to the Linkedin ad.
All trail runners run to GOLD
George Simion has built the party around him and is not going to give him a chance to grow. It directly controls the lists for local and European parliamentary elections. AUR is not an anti-system party, as Simion declares, because it does not propose a new generation of politicians, but recruits from other parties.
George Simion completely ignores the work of the members of the AUR, who for the last four years have made efforts to stand on the political stage. AUR members have no chance to run for local and European parliamentary elections because George Simion is replacing them with the trailblazers he brings into the party.
MEP Tudor Ciuhodaru will be the AUR candidate for Iași City Hall. This is one of the champions of the pathists, changing numerous parties: PC, PPDD, UNPR, PSD and in 2024 AUR. Ciuhodaru changed 5 parties in the last 15 years.
Călin Mătieș also left PSD and will run with AUR for Alba Iulia City Hall in 2024.
Mohammad Murad, who in the past was part of ALDE and the Romanian Ecologist Party, is the AUR candidate for the position of president of the Constanța County Council.
For Constanța City Hall, Simion’s party proposes Ovidiu Cupșa, former PNL member for the last 30 years.
These are just a few examples of the disaster inside AUR. Online ads are just a strategy to sell the illusion that anyone can run and attract more donations. Inside the party, George Simion already has the lists prepared with all the trailblazers. Some of the candidates from the local elections will be on the lists for this year’s parliamentary elections.
AUR is losing affiliates and falling in the polls
The party members understood the dirty game that Simion was playing. AUR has lost several branches in recent months. George Simion appointed Marius Apopei, former PNL county councilor, to run for Piatra Neamț City Hall. But the AUR Piatra Neamț branch has said that it does not support Marius Apopei, who is also the president of the branch.
Ovidiu Szime, the former president of AUR Timișoara, left the party, accusing that “the basic principles and the statute of the party are not respected”. George Simion also lost the AUR Călărași branch, after deputy Dumitru Coarnă left the party, when he saw that he could not establish county organizations.
George Simion did not develop the party with county organizations and branches throughout the country in order to keep all control in Bucharest. The money from the donations is directed to the accounts of the central office, not to the county organizations. George Simion did not establish county organizations to have access to all the money and turned the party into a personal business.
Gelu Vișan, political analyst, showed how Simion “steals” party members’ money and controls the lists based on how much each donates.
“On the one hand, he deceives the Romanians, on the other hand he steals from his own members and puts it in his pocket. (…) Everyone in the party should sit at Simion’s pen. You gave the money, you are at my pen, you didn’t give the money, you left my pen. That’s about it,” explained Gelu Vișan, exclusively for PS News.
If at the beginning of 2024, AUR was estimated at over 20% in the polls, in just a few months, the party lost a lot, falling to only 14%. This shows that the electorate does not trust the candidates chosen and imposed by George Simion. AUR has disappointed both party members and the electorate who are moving to other parties.
