Less than ten survivors of the second conflagration were present today, in Crâng, at the festivities on the occasion of War Veterans Day. Although most of them are already over 100 years old, the seniors enjoyed both the honor brought to them and the patriotic songs performed by the Buzău garrison band.

The festivities were opened with a Te Deum dedicated to those who fell in the theaters of battle.

Military officials, but also civilians, then gave a short speech wishing health to the veterans everywhere. An estimated 700 survivors of World War II are still alive.

At the end of the short ceremony, troops from the II Getica Division gave the honor, marching in front of the veterans present, to the tunes of a brass band.

One of the most well-known veterans, Gheorghe Baciu, wanted to offer only one piece of advice to the young people of today. Honesty, says the Buzoian centenarian, is the key to a peaceful life. War Veterans Day was established in 2007. It is celebrated on April 29 to commemorate the day when King Charles I signed the decree establishing the title of “war veteran” for former fighters in the War of Independence (1877-1878). .
