Piedone’s Facebook page is managed by the underworld boss Bebe Camataru and promoted by the AUR propaganda network. How did Piedone get to have such a big impact on social networks

The Facebook page of Cristian Popescu Piedone, whose posts have been seen by hundreds of thousands of Romanians, is managed by a relative of a dangerous underworld from Bucharest, Bebe Camataru.

The administrator’s name is Ioan Alexandru Avramescu, he was an employee of the Sector 5 City Hall.

In a complaint addressed to DNA by a former director in the City Hall of Sector 5, it is claimed that Avramescu is the end of the Bebe Camataru underworld. Bebe Barbulescu, by his real name, is the cousin of the Nutu and Sile Camataru brothers, and was convicted of drug trafficking and pimping.

The posts on the page of Cristian Popescu Piedone and on the page of his son, Vlad Popescu Piedone, are written by the same person, considering the writing style. Written in the style of a 4th grade composition, the posts are still grammatically correct, a relevant indication that they do not belong to the Piedone family, who stand out in public speeches for their mastery of the Romanian language.

The success of the posts on Piedone’s page can also be explained by the fact that they are also promoted by the AUR propaganda apparatus.

Cristian Popescu Piedone is strongly promoted on Facebook and by the extensive propaganda network built by AUR, shows an investigation carried out by EFOR (Expert Forum). Numerous Facebook pages associated with AUR are rolling out Piedone’s populist messages.

The respective Facebook propaganda pages are associated with alleged news sites in order to have credibility.

EFOR found, using the public tool Ad Library, that Piedone’s campaign themes, such as “Piedone’s Jars”, are promoted on these pages, which are used in particular to disseminate AUR’s propaganda messages.

“The operating mode is already a classic one. First, a network of dozens of pages is created; EFOR has identified only 16, but there are certainly others that can be added. In the second step, this network of pages begins to create copy-paste disseminated content on all networks.

What can we observe? There is this network of websites that distribute positive content about members of the AUR party, their legislative initiatives, reactions in the press, protests, direct promotion even, being visibly a mouthpiece of the party, the sole purpose of these networks being to popularize the content GOLD and maximize its impact. The network was also used to promote content about Cristian Popescu Piedone and his online election campaign in the form of illustrated memes. We do not know what lies beneath this common ground of action. Why do the websites attached to the AUR promote Piedone, if the AUR has an announced candidate for the General Mayor, Mihai Enache?”, notes EFOR.
