Romania won a gold medal for the first time in the men’s double rowing event at the European Rowing Championships, on Sunday, in Szeged (Hungary), through Andrei-Sebastian Cornea and Marian Enache, according to World Rowing.

The Romanians were clocked with a time of 06 min 44 sec 55/100, being followed at a distance by Spain (06:51.07) and Germany (06:51.49).

In this event, Romania also won medals in 2019 (bronze) and 2018 (silver), with Marian Enache participating in both races.

Romania’s tally in Szeged reached seven medals, three gold, two silver and two bronze.

On Sunday, Ioana Vrînceanu and Roxana Anghel won gold in the women’s double sculls, Andrei-Sebastian Cornea and Marian Enache won the men’s double sculls, Florin Arteni and Florin Lehaci took silver in the men’s double sculls, and Ancuța Bodnar and Simona Radiş they won the bronze in women’s double rowing.

Romania qualified 12 crews in the medal finals out of the 13 that Szeged sent. On Sunday, the tricolors will start in two finals A, in women’s single sculls and women’s 8+1.

At the 2023 edition of the European Championships, held in Bled (Slovenia), Romania won six medals, including five gold and one silver.
