Romgaz will supply ELCEN with 3 TWh of gas sold at a regulated price

Romgaz, the most important domestic gas producer, majority owned by the Romanian state, will deliver to Electrocentrale Bucharest (ELCEN), a company in which it is also a shareholder, approximately 3 TWh of gas, sold at the regulated price of 120 lei/MWh in gas year 2024/2025.

The total value of the contract signed between the 2 companies is 379.4 million lei, excluding VAT.

The amount of gas to be delivered between April 1, 2024 and April 1, 2025 is 3.06 TWh, and the price is 120 lei/MWh, to which is added the tariff for entering the national transport system (SNT) and VAT .

Last year, Romgaz delivered a total of over 50 TWh to companies on the domestic market.

The amount of 3 TWh was not negotiated by the two companies, according to the legislation in force it was established and distributed by the Transport System Operator (Transgaz).

According to the legislation in force, “between April 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024, natural gas producers who carry out both onshore and/or offshore extraction activities, regardless of the start date of this activity, as well as natural gas sales activities (among which also includes Romgaz – no) have the obligation to deliver, at the price of 120 lei/MWh, the necessary quantities of natural gas resulting from the current internal production activity to the suppliers of the thermal energy producers or directly to the thermal energy producers, as the case may be, only for the amount of natural gas used in the production of thermal energy in cogeneration plants and in thermal plants intended for consumption by the population, hereinafter referred to as PET, to ensure the consumption needs of these customers from current production between November 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025, and from underground natural gas storage facilities”.

ELCEN was established in December 2002, as a subsidiary of SC Termoelectrica SA, through the reorganization of this commercial company. Currently, the Ministry of Energy is the main shareholder of the company, holding 97.51% of the shares, the rest of the shares being held by Romgaz (2.49%).

Romgaz is the largest producer and main supplier of natural gas in Romania and is 70% owned by the Romanian state, through the Ministry of Energy.
