White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan has postponed plans to travel to Saudi Arabia this week as he recovers from a minor accident that left him with a cracked rib, the House announced Wednesday. Alba, reports Reuters, informs News.ro.
Sullivan was to hold talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as the United States presses for progress toward normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
The accident “affected his ability to travel,” White House spokesman John Kirby told reporters. “It was a minor accident. It was not caused by anyone. It was not the result of a nefarious act,” said Kirby.
The spokesman added that Sullivan was looking forward to rescheduling his visit, but did not provide a date.
Talks on normalizing relations had been frozen immediately after the October 7 attack by Palestinian fighters Hamas on southern Israel and Israel’s subsequent attack on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, but negotiations have resumed in recent months.
