Last minute announcement for those who receive their pension by post. There is a general strike at the Post Office starting Monday morning, but the activity is carried out normally in most counties, the company announced.

Work is normal at Poșta Română despite the strike

The representatives of the Romanian Post stated that the company’s activity is carried out normally on Monday morning in most counties of the country. This comes in the context in which the Romanian Postal Workers Union announced the start of the general strike starting at 00:00.

“At this time, the activity of the Romanian Post is taking place normally in most counties of the country. The Company’s management is monitoring the situation and we will return with information for the public”, it is stated in a post on the company’s Facebook page.

According to a statement issued by the SLPR and sent on Sunday, the trade unionists request a net 400 lei increase in employee salaries and an increase in the loyalty bonus.

The trade unionists mention that 115 days have passed since the management of the Romanian National Post Company made the first decision regarding the Collective Labor Agreement for 2024. During this period, 110 days have passed without any progress. Without the company’s management showing any intention to seriously discuss this document that regulates the labor relations between the employer and the employees, thus maintaining social peace within the company.

Salary increase is demanded

Only in the last 4-5 days, after the registration of a labor conflict, a warning strike and the notification of the general strike, at the express request of the majority shareholder – the Romanian state through the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, the company’s management began to make available to the union representative – the Romanian Postal Workers Union, data and information necessary to perform calculations regarding the salaries of over 20 thousand Romanian Post workers.

It is known that many of the employees of the Romanian Post have salaries at the minimum level in the economy. Today, after receiving the information and in the context in which the governors announced that the minimum wage will reach 3,700 lei starting from July 2024, we can see how serious the situation is in reality.

The company offered options to employees

According to statistics, 18,000 of the more than 21,000 employees of the Romanian Post, which represents a percentage of 90%, will have the minimum wage in the economy starting from July 2024, regardless of the position they hold, their responsibilities or their seniority within the company.

This is the dissatisfaction and revolt of the thousands of Romanian Post employees, who decided to trigger the labor conflict and go on strike starting on 04/01/2024, at 00:00, the release states.

Despite this situation, the Romanian Postal Workers Union expresses its readiness to negotiate during the strike, in the presence of the Minister of Digitization, Bogdan Ivan, in his capacity as a representative of the Romanian state, the majority shareholder of Romanian Post, to find solutions to the claims made.

Following the announcement regarding the initiation of the general strike, the management of the Poșta Română company emphasized that all the financial options of the company were offered to the employees in order to avoid this collective labor conflict.

“We assure all clients, partners and banking institutions of the stability and functionality of the services, as well as the solidity of the ongoing management policies. We specify that the escalation of the labor conflict is artificial, and the “Romanian Post” National Company has taken all measures to overcome it. We assure the more than 2 million pensioners who receive their social rights through the “Romanian Post” National Company that there will not be a single person who will not receive their rights on time, in April! All social rights will be delivered on time, until April 15, as we have assumed the commitment”, it is emphasized in the press release of the company’s management.

Also, the National Company “Poșta Română” states that “the overwhelming majority”, over 80% of the employees, “carried out their work duties professionally, as they have done so far”. At the same time, the company mentions that approximately 20% of its employees have officially and in writing joined the collective labor dispute.
