Human work is not replaced, but transformed with the help of artificial intelligence, Cristian Popa, member of the Board of Directors of the BNR, appreciates in a post on LinkedIn.

The most valuable discovery made by mankind is capitalism. With the rise of capitalism, the standard of living increased explosively, inventions appeared that radically changed the world, such as the steam engine, the telephone or the Internet. It seems that we are in front of such a new invention, he writes:

“AI technology has extraordinary potential, it has the potential to reach the level of inventions that revolutionized society in the past. But there are also risks, and many fear this new technological revolution.

Always in history, great technological breakthroughs have been viewed with skepticism and initially met with resistance from people who feared them, feared that their work would become redundant, for example. Here, the Luddites remain emblematic, 19th-century English workers who wanted machines banned from textile factories, considering them a threat to jobs. They ended up destroying the equipment so they wouldn’t be replaced. History has proven them wrong.

Just as the arrival of the train was not a disaster for the wagon makers, neither is the adoption of AI going to be a disaster for the current generation, because it could create more jobs than it replaces, stimulating the development of new industries or transform and optimize the current ones, increasing human productivity. Human work is not replaced, but transformed with the help of AI: new jobs will be created based on complex digital skills and a higher level of creativity.

There will be changes, maybe big, not everyone will win, but society as a whole will benefit.

Think of AI this way: it’s a tool, a “smart screwdriver” that can amplify our creativity and productivity, opening doors to previously unexplored areas of innovation. Think how many life-saving drugs AI could discover. It already does.

We don’t know what the future will look like, but looking back, in history, we see that any new technology, even if it initially leads to the loss of some jobs, will later create better paying and more challenging ones for the human mind, to which very few would have thought in the past.”

Most likely, the job that many of our children will have in 20 years today doesn’t even exist, he wrote.
